THINGS CHANGE WHEN WE VOTE

COVID-19 RESPONSE

COVID-19 still poses an enormous threat to Texas. We know that wearing masks and socially distancing can slow the spread, but the current state leaders have failed our state by downplaying the seriousness of COVID-19, resisting calls to require masks in public, and rushing to reopen our state. We need leaders in Austin that will listen to doctors and experts.

EQUAL PAY FOR
EQUAL WORK

Women of color continue to be devalued for their labor, earning cents compared to their white male counterparts. It’s time to elect leaders in Austin who will fight to raise the minimum wage, expand job training apprenticeships, protect pensions, ensure women earn equal pay for equal work and guarantee paid sick days for working families.

PROTECT WOMEN & BABIES

Texas has the highest rate of death following childbirth in the country. Democrats in Austin will work to reduce maternal mortality rates by increasing Medicaid coverage for women up to 12 months postpartum, and ensure that all Texas women have equal access to quality health care

RACIAL JUSTICE

Black Lives Matter. We need new laws in our state that will remove violent cops from the streets. Democrats in Austin will ensure that we maintain adequate police funding while also investing more in social workers, drug intervention programs, and mental health first responders so cops don't have to act as social and mental health workers.

HEALTHCARE

Everyone deserves access to affordable and quality healthcare. Texas has the largest number of uninsured people in the nation. Our leaders must expand access to Medicaid, rein in healthcare costs, and protect those with pre-existing conditions.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM

Being hard on crime does not keep our communities safer. We need leaders in Austin that will reform our criminal justice system to make it more fair and just for everyone, expand drug treatment for nonviolent drug offenders to prevent crime, and reduce spending on prisons.

OUR ENVIRONMENT

Recent studies have shown that pregnant women who live near natural gas flares are much more likely to have premature births, and Hispanic women and their babies are most at risk. Extremists in Austin have worked to make it even easier for gas companies to drill and release these toxic flares, putting mothers and their babies at risk. We need new leadership in Austin.

VOTE LOCAL

Some people say that only the presidential race matters this November. However, many of the decisions that most impact our lives get made by our state representatives in Austin – on everything from minimum wage to public education to expanding Medicaid —there is a lot at stake for our state and our communities. It’s important that we elect state representatives that will listen to us.
